DCS Correctional Services NQF Level 4 Learnership 2023-2024

The Department of Correctional Services is inviting applications from suitable, young South Africans from various communities to apply for its Corrections Services NQF Level 4 Learnership 2023 intake. About the Department of Correctional Services
The Department of Correctional Services manages South Africa’s prison system. Employing close to 34,000 staff, the DCS is in charge of looking after 240 prisons which houses approximately 190,000 inmates in minimum, medium, and maximum security facilities.



DCS Correctional Services NQF Level 4 Learnership 2023
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to acquire an NQF Level 4 Further Education Training Certificate in Corrections Services qualification at the end of the 12-month learnership. With the aim of helping address the skills shortage within DCS and South Africa, the learnership consists of about 30% instructional/theoretical learning and 70% workplace exposure. Instructional learning involves theoretical modules, firearm training, self-defense, and physical training at select DCS colleges. Uniforms, accommodations, meals, and training materials will be provided during this phase of the learnership. A monthly stipend amounting to R3,758.25 will be available to the successful candidate during this period.



The larger portion of the learnership takes place at designated correctional and social reintegration centers, as well as community corrections offices. At this point of the learnership, the successful candidate will only have access to the monthly stipend.

A South African citizen
Completed Grade 12 or National Senior Certificate, National Certificate in Vocational Studies, further Education and Training, or
Penology, Criminology, Corrections
Agriculture, Agriculture Engineering, Agriculture Economists, Agriculture Management, Animal/Plant Production, Animal Health Technicians
Artisans (e.g. Pastry/Baker, Bricklayer, Boiler Maker, Construction Carpenter, Cabinet Maker, Fitter/Turner, Gunsmith, Furniture Polisher, Millwright, Locksmith, Patternmaker, Painter, Sheet Metal, Plumber, Spray Painting, Die/Tool Maker, Wood Machinist, Welder
Safety Technicians or Construction Health
Food Processing, Meat Inspector/Processing/Examination,
Graphic Design
Textile Designing
Two-way Radio Technicians
Must be able to pass medical and physical fitness examinations
Must be 21 to 35 years old
Able to pass personnel suitability screenings (criminal records, qualifications, citizenship, etc.)
